Globalized trade in food means more choice for consumers and benefits for the economy. However, globalization can also threaten human health if stringent safety checks are not implemented. MoniQA (Monitoring and Quality Assurance in the Food Supply Chain) brings together over 100 institutions from 35 countries and 5 continents, which means we are able to react in a fast and comprehensive way to emerging food safety issues. MoniQA has been dealing with the following emerging issues:
- Melamine
- Dioxin in Irish pork
- Clenbuterol
- Nano-tech in food
- Hormones in drinking water
- Use of plastic pallets (Deca) by the food industry
- Swine flu
- Listeria
- EHEC
New issues are being added based on the horizon screeing activities of the working group.
