What MoniQA has done for us

In 2007 the MoniQA Network of Excellence was launched in Vienna with the ambitious aim to increase collaboration in harmonising worldwide food quality and safety monitoring and control strategies.

Now that MoniQA enters its last phase of EU funding before being run as an independent association it is a good time to look back and ask: what has actually been achieved? How has MoniQA touched the life of its participants, their careers and institutions? Since MoniQA was conceived as a network with a truly global reach, what kind of international and inter-institutional cooperation has been set up?

These are the questions we asked selected key partners of the project, their students and some of MoniQA’s external collaboration partners.

All the partners we contacted felt that their participation in MoniQA was worthwhile and that they would “do it again”. Students who participated in the MoniQA FSTs commented how this experience has enlarged their professional knowledge and given them the opportunity to network with other young  practitioners in the field. Senior management commented on the value of MoniQA for obtaining new contacts around the globe, while a department head highlighted his involvement in new EU projects through MoniQA and how this has strengthened the image of his university.
